• Scouting report: Pat Knight is in his first season as coach. The Cardinals play five of their next seven games on the road, including upcoming games against No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Kentucky. One of their losses this season was to No. 8 Louisville. Lamar is second nationally in rebounding with 43.3 per game; Rice is third at 43.1 and is led by national leader Arsalan Kazemi (12.4). Four Cardinals are averaging double figures, led by guard Anthony Miles with 15.8 points per game. Miles also leads the Southland Conference in 3-point shooting at 56.5 percent. Guard Mike James is averaging 12.1 points per game. During the Cardinals’ current three-game winning streak, James is averaging 17 points and shooting 52.6 percent. Guard Devon Lamb (10.5 points and 8.6 rebounds) and forward Charlie Harper (11.8 points and 8.1 rebounds) also are among the Cardinals stats leaders. Rice won last year’s meeting 75-73 in Houston.
